What Boost Mobile requires before it will unlock
Boost Mobile came from Sprint and is now run by EchoStar. Its unlocking policy sets one rule for prepaid devices and a different one for postpaid, and most Boost customers are on the prepaid side.
- One year after activation, on prepaid Boost unlocks a prepaid device one year after initial activation, for current and former customers in good standing who own the device. It does this remotely within two business days of the device becoming eligible.
- No balance left on the device If the prepaid device was financed, the balance must be paid off in full before it is eligible for unlocking.
- The account must not be suspended If the account is in suspended status at the one-year mark, the device is not eligible until it comes out of that status. The clock does not carry it through on its own.
- Postpaid runs on a different rule A postpaid device paid for in full is eligible right away. On a financing plan it becomes eligible once the plan is complete. Either way Boost unlocks it remotely within two business days, with no additional fee.

When Boost Mobile says no
Can you unlock my phone if Boost Mobile says it is not eligible?
Usually yes. Carriers apply their own eligibility rules — minimum time on the network, balance paid off, account in good standing. We are not bound by those rules, so a handset Boost Mobile will not unlock today can very often be unlocked by us today.
Can I unlock while I am still paying the phone off?
Yes. An outstanding instalment balance or an active contract does not stop us. You still owe the balance to your carrier — unlocking does not cancel the debt — but it no longer blocks you from using another network.
Do I need to wait out the carrier minimum period?
No. There is no waiting period on our side. That is the single most common reason people come to us rather than going through the carrier.
Do you need my Boost Mobile account or the account holder?
No. We do not need the account holder, a password, a PIN, or any contact with Boost Mobile. All we need is the IMEI, which you get by dialling *#06# on the handset.
What if I bought the phone second-hand?
That is fine. Ownership history does not affect the unlock — this is exactly the case carriers refuse, because the account was never in your name.
